The Criminalization of Cyberattacks on Information Systems

NÁZEV DIPLOMOVÉ PRÁCE V ANGLICKÉM JAZYCE The Criminalization of Cyberattacks on Information Systems ABSTRACT This master thesis deals with the issue of criminalization of attacks on information systems. The topicality of the topic is supported by the rapid development of information and communication technologies and the shift of everyday activities to the virtual environment. Nowadays, cybercrime poses a growing danger not only to individuals but also to the state. The aim of this thesis is to introduce cyberattacks and to classify them criminally. Furthermore, attention is concentrated on the procedural aspect of attacks, in particular on their detection, investigation and the procedure of international cooperation. The transnational and international framework in the fight against cybercrime is not omitted. The thesis seeks to identify what problematic aspects domestic legislation faces and what future developments in the field of cybercrime can be expected. The introductory section explains the basic terms that are used extensively in the thesis. Subsequently, key international instruments in the fight against cybercrime are introduced. Analyzis of Parallel Honeypot Tools

This bachelor thesis analyzes the selected shadow honeypot tool. The thesis explaines the need for having tool for early detection of a new type of cyber-attack. Shadow honeypot tool analyzed in the thesis is called Argos. Argos is one of the results of the international project called European Network of Affined honeypots (NoAH). The thesis includes thorough analysis and testing of Argos tool. The paper also includes implementation of Argos log files parsing utility.

The main aim of this thesis is to find out which attacks on information systems pose a threat to the state and whether new technological trends represent a challenge for the current Czech legislation in the field of criminal law. The methodology varies across this thesis. The analytical method together with the synthesis is used to fulfil the aim. In some parts, an empirical approach is used. The introductory part of the thesis explains the key institutes in the field of cybercrime and international instruments for combating cybercrime. The most important document is the Council of Europe Convention on Cybercrime. The main part of the thesis is devoted to the difficulties of current Czech legislation in connection with cyberattacks. The final part of the thesis deals with current technological trends, such as Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Cryptocurrencies and the Internet of Things, which play an important role in the field of attacks on information systems. Analysis of specific cases of cybercrimes in the financial sector

The thesis deals with the issue of currently most frequent cyber attacks apperaring in the financial sector, that do not aim to fraud financial institutions, but particularly target their clients, average Internet users. The highest attention is deserved to fraud emails -- as known as phishing. The other types of internet frauds and scams, such as Nigerian email scams or the Zeus virus, are not omitted. In the document is presented textual and pictorial guide, which contents a list of warning signs, that helps common Internet user identify and reveal email fraud. The multicriterial analysis evaluates the level of education and awareness, that selected financial institutions provide to their clients using the official web sites. In the last chapter are suggested recommendations and advices leading to increase availability, clearness and quality of information regarding internet frauds and financial threats.
